Stephanie SteinbrecherWelcome Tiny Tomcats to Gonzales Child Service Center Preschool!

My name is Stephanie Steinbrecher and I am the assistant principal at Gonzales Child Service Center. Our GCSC family is so excited that you have partnered with us as ONE TEAM as we start this incredible journey of preschool together. This is an exciting time of growth as we do the work alongside you, teaching our children to become not only students, but students who are achieving at high levels.

As we work together to set our Tiny Tomcats up for success, it is very important that your child is at school, every day, on time. Attending school regularly sends the message that school is important and not something to be missed. We understand that children sometimes get sick, but it is our job to make sure that our children understand that our first and most important lesson is that SCHOOL IS IMPORTANT! We look forward to building the kinds of relationships with your child and with you that makes this a very easy message to send. We are excited to be part of your family and have you and your child as part of ours.

As ONE TEAM, we will be working on many things this year, from learning the basics of a classroom, to teaching social and emotional skills and procedures, to working on our academic goals. This year, we are focused on three academic goals, and we will be doing the preschool work to build so that your child is ready for kindergarten. In kindergarten, students will be expected to meet the following three goals:

In math: Talk and explain. Students should be able to construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others.

In language arts: With prompting and support, ask and answer questions about key details in a text and identify the main topic and retell key details of a text.

In Writing: Use a combination of drawing, dictating, and writing to compose opinion pieces in which they tell a reader the topic or the name of the book they are writing about and state an opinion or preference about the topic or book (e.g., My favorite book is…).

We will have several opportunities for you to work together with us as ONE TEAM, with ONE PLAN to make sure that your child is well prepared. Please plan to attend the parent days that focus on Math, Literacy and SEL to ensure that you have the training and support you need to work our plan at home.
We will also be sharing our work with you, so that you know exactly where your child is at developmentally. We know that you will find our staff very knowledgeable, helpful, caring and supportive as we work together.

2018-2019 is going to be our best year yet at GCSC, where we believe it is important to Work Together, Learn Together as ONE TEAM with ONE PLAN! If there is ever anything we can do to support you and your Tiny Tomcat during the year, please feel free to email me at ssteinbrecher@d131.org or call us at 630-299-7590.
