Aries "Jaybird" Gonzalez Memorial MuralAries "Jaybird" Gonzalez Memorial Mural

As some of you may know, Gonzalez Child Center is named after a student who attended our school many years ago, Aries “Jaybird” Gonzalez. Aries was a student who loved to learn and grow, and come to school each day. He had such an impact on others around him, especially the peers and teachers that were fortunate enough to work with him. Aries then attended Beaupre Elementary School, where he continued to inspire and be loved by all. Sadly, Aries was diagnosed with leukemia when he was just a baby, and this painful disease took his life when he was only 7 years old. We continue to feel Aries in our building each day, as we try to honor his legacy by giving each student we meet a quality education and a love for learning. His family has been very involved with our school, volunteering time and supplies, and always expressing their appreciation for being the stepping stones of Aries’ love for school.

This year, Fernanda Camarena, painted a mural in honor of Aries. Pictured above, you can see a Tiny Tomcat (our school mascot) in a graduation cap – as all our students are graduation bound! You can see a school, paint, colors, books, and even some jaybirds flying in the sky – painted in honor of Aries’ famous nickname. You can see Aries’ Pre-K graduation gown hanging in the middle.  Also in one picture, on the left, you can see Aries’ loving grandmother, pictured with Fernanda herself on the left. We are truly so thankful to have known and loved Aries and his family, and to have such a talented artist to memorialize him here forever. If you can, come see this masterpiece!
